Tense standoff underway between protesters and police in Ferguson, Mo.

Police said protesters were "brought to a standstill, in a situation that requires immediate medical attention to escape."
The police chief told reporters he was told that a crowd of protesters had been trying to force officers to use pepper spray and tear gas on a young African-American woman, whom they believe to have been hit with a stun gun.
"Our command and control personnel at this time are responding to multiple, credible reports of police officers being shot," the chief said.
The St. Louis County Police said in a statement on their Facebook page Monday night that a stun gun had been deployed and "an officer discharged his weapon." The department did not state if that was the officer who shot the woman.
An officer was injured in the melee. He is expected to recover, the department's statement said.
In the video posted Tuesday, black man identified as 22-year-old Anthony Lamar Smith, can be seen struggling with police before he was shot in the legs. A female can be heard sobbing as Smith reaches for his waistband.
A number of other officers then joined in the crowd beating Smith in the face and stomping on him. It appears that several officers grabbed his right arm as he was being tased and dragged him down the stairs. One officer was also seen on top of Smith, apparently with an officer's baton.
"Let him go," she says in the video, according to local press reports.
Officers have since retreated from the scene, local news reports have said. St. Louis' Police chief later suggested that the police have not done enough, telling reporters, "We have done a good job but our officers have not done a very good job."
In response, protesters in Ferguson said they were frustrated and frustrated by the officers involved, according to reports.
"This is a white police officer shot and killed in broad daylight on a street where people of color are killed in cold blood at disproportionate rates, just days after a black man was shot dead by law enforcement officers in Ohio," Jesse Clayton, one of the black leaders who have met with Ferguson Mayor James Knowles III, said in a statement. "I demand that everyone in Ferguson immediately convene for a summit of communities of color and for the full truth, not excuses, in this horrific situation."
The video begins with a brief shot of the victim lying prone, a sign of what is expected to be a brutal death.

Angry melbourne lord mayor lashes out at threatening protest
Mr Turnbull and Treasurer Scott Morrison were in the city to meet with leaders of the anti-union Unite union on Saturday.
One of the leaders who attended the meeting was John O'Connor from the Young Labor Party.

The union, which claims to have more than 600 members in Melbourne, has received numerous threats, with one particularly violent one recently posted to his Facebook page.
Mr O'Connor told 774 ABC Melbourne: "This is what is going to happen, this is a fascist act of violence.
"This is not a joke. This is going to be happening on the streets of Melbourne.
"I haven't been physically attacked, but the people who attacked me, the threats were just absolutely horrible."
Mr Morrison confirmed a police force liaison officer from Victoria was at the meeting, which had been called to a rally of about 2,000 people to pressure Mr O'Connor.

"One of the things we're doing is going to have a dialogue with these groups and they'll know how to approach these events responsibly in future," he said.
"I'd like to take a brief look at all the issues that are raising alarm bells across the country... there's always some people that believe, in a way, we need to do some things."
Asked about the potential for violence if demonstrators didn't leave peacefully, Mr Morrison said: "I think it would be best if these guys don't go on any sort of agitation whatsoever".
Mr O'Connor said Mr Turnbull and Mr Morrison, who is also Premier Daniel Andrews' brother, should come to the meeting with a list of demands, not just about the police, which they will provide.
He said they should be willing to work with those who support the protests and also support the police.
The meeting with Mr O'Connor comes days after violent clashes broke out outside Parliament when anti-ABS protests and counter-demonstrations took place.
On the same day there were anti-Labor marches in various locations in the capital, including the Sydney airport and in Hyde Park.
The actions were held to protest about the Government's plan to scrap Medicare and the carbon tax as well as a planned $70 billion investment in a $1.9 trillion infrastructure project, also under review.
Anti-The World protesters have also held a series of sit-in rallies in recent weeks on the Gold Coast.
